We Interrupt This Blog for a Promotional Announcement
We'll get back to snow speculation in a new thread. While we spend much of our time in my business working with cutting edge technologies, I thought I'd let you know an "older" technology still has a huge impact in this television market. Channel 4 Weatherline, which we began in 1988, received a record number of calls in 2007--10,054,192 calls! The equipment includes a digital recorder and 25 incoming lines. Weatherline, Inc., the manufacturer of the equipment, tells us that per capita Buffalo is often their number one market for phonecall totals. With that kind of call count, you can understand why during peak hours you sometimes get a busy signal despite the expense of hosting 25 lines.
Another impressive number: on Sunday, December the 16th--the day of our 12.3" snowstorm (at the NWS), wivb.com received a record 277,000 hits--the majority of which were for our Weather Page.
So, in addition to our ratings dominance over the last nearly 7 years, other technologies--new and older--are still helping us reach the WNY/nrn PA audience 24/7.
By the way, this blog's doing great. The daily and weekly numbers have been beyond our expectations.

Im honestly not suprised. Im one of those people who often gets the busy tone during those high impact weather days. WIVB's weather area on-line is so much better than the others! Like you say in your on TV comercial... "we dont just show you pictures"... this is just one thing that makes WIVB better than the others. As far as I see it, no station comes close to having as good of a weather cast as WIVB has... news on WIVB is still the best, but WGRZ is trying to catch up in that area. Keep up the good work, and maybe you should add 4 or 5 more phone lines... so I dont get the busy tone when Im calling this Friday lol!
Your "close now" phone text alert is such a great idea!! Just wait and see, the other two stations will follow in your lead.
Keep up the great work and you will have nothing to fear , the worst part of the news these days is no Dan Rather..
PS: Ride home from downtown to Hamburg was rough about hour ago , 3-4 inches of snow in Hamburg.
thank you all for the hours and dedication that you put into the forcast i know i've depended more than once on the acurracy of the super 4 team to help me with many of work and or play!
Thank-you so very much, Don Paul!!! You actually take the time to " teach" the weather; in addition to giving an excellent forecast! It's so much better as a viewer,to be able to understand what you say.Thank-you again !
