BLOG BEHAVIOR

Someone earlier today posted a well written complaint about the incredibly immature behavior which has greatly diminished the value of this blog.

I could not agree more.

A number of you young posters are, frankly, ruining this blog. It's not just the abusive language from a few; it's the childish, hysterical nature of many of the posts we've been seeing. You have made this blog a far less useful forum, and shown a chaotic lack of self control. Adults don't have time for this nonsense, since we're generally much busier than you kids are.

So, I say this as a father, blog administrator, and chief meteorologist. Either you start to shape up and calm down, or we will ignore your posts. I will not allow my staff and I to waste valuable time dealing with misbehaving children. It's like a classroom in which the kids have taken over, and the teacher has lost control. I think you know what would happen in a school environment (or SHOULD happen) when bad behavior disrupts the classroom.

Bottom line: If you want this blog to continue, and you want us to respond to you, show some maturity. If you don't, I will make it department policy to ignore your posts.

As Colonel Jessup (Jack Nicholson) asked in the movie "A Few Good Men:" Are we
CLEAR?

Ayuud,

It's obvious you don't get it, just from this childish response.

Settle down and show some maturity and you'll be fine. Continue in the hysterical vein you've been following, and you'll be ignored--at least by adults--including the staff at WeatherWatch 4.

Understand? Don't answer that. Just be quiet and think about it for awhile.

I agree with you wholeheartedly,Don. I think you should discontinue this blog.As much as I like it,it has turned into a forum where people promote themselves,or feel free to take cheap shots under the protection of anonymity. We'll continue to to get the MOST ACCURATE info from you and your team from the tv and phone.

Don and MB and the other mets. Kindly do not do away with this blog. There's no need. Once the children are gone from here, the adults will return.

Off Topic:
Ayuud, why don't you give yourself a one month break from this blog and do what some of the adults on here have suggested you do, so that maybe, maybe, you might grow up to be a meteorologist.

Give your self proclaimed 'expert image' a rest. Let us discuss the weather please, like mature individuals.

No doubt your 'friends' have been directed and led here by you so they can read your rantings on this blog. You're the type that has to have to have a 'known' audience or you wouldn't be trying to give yourself such a supercool hotshot image.

Their point appears to be to appear smarter than any adult out there, but it's not working. "Hey man come read my posts on the weather blog, I can predict the weather better than (Don, Mary Beth, Mike, Lindsay)..."

And now we hear from some of his other friends (e.g. markymark) who perhaps have a slightly better grasp of the English language. Kudo's to you for paying attention in school and learning at least one thing! But kids, you need to do some serious growing up and understand that it's one thing to discuss principles and a totally different thing to attack personalities. Principles should always come before personalities. Always. I'm asking you to take your hatred elsewhere. No doubt there isn't a "I hate meteorologists" blog out there you can all go join and pat yourselves on the back. If there isn't, go start one. That'll keep you occupied no doubt.

My suggestion to those who wish to continue responsible blogging here, is to completely ignore postings from these immature individuals. Totally ignore them. Is there a way you can block those IP's from here? That might save you some valuable time.

ON TOPIC:
Temps here in southern Niagara (Welland)are well below freezing (C), we were in the same dry slot you were in. Within the past hour, we had a good ten minutes or so of ice pellets, followed by a sort of freezing sleet spell of about ten minutes more. That's now shifting to a slightly drier type of sleet/snow...it's still a wet precip though.

This would be the beginning of part two?

On another note, how are fellow bloggers doing? Barrie1 did you get the snow I sent your way and the nice gentleman on the farm with the sheep - how are things your way?

There are lots of ways to get keep people from posting just to be jerks. Perhaps its time to require people who post to join. The problem with rouge posts here is not unique to this blog. I think posts of rude people should be pulled and those people banned. Those who really care about weather will not post if they think others will mock them and this whole thing will fail.

Here in North Tonawanda we've been getting light to VERY heavy sleet for much of the day. I was out shoveling until about an hour ago and even turning my face into the wind was quite painful! Heaviest sleet I've seen probably ever.... and I used to be a professional weather observer too. and have seen a lot of strange atmospheric things in my day ....

Nicely put message Don. A personal blog/web site is the place for childish rants, NOT a blog/site like this. This blog is a great idea and it would be very sad if a certain few were to ruin it. This is my first visit here and the posts, by and large, are fun to read. It is very interesting to get into the reasoning that goes behind the forecasts...

Don, Mike, Mary Beth and Lindsay.... keep up the great work. And please bundle up for those live shots!!

Hi Don,
Here in Middleport there is heavy snow at the moment,as has been the case most of the day.I would say well over a foot now..
I was outside shoveling about an hour ago (5:00 pm)and saw a bright flash of lightening followed a long clap of thunder.I thought that was very unusual.
Also thanks for the post and hope we keep all the childish responses out.You have a great blog going here and we'd hate to see it gone!!!

Hello,
Many strike of Lightning were registered up near Rochester over the last 2 hrs.
But unfortunately sleet and the dry slot have kept accumulations down. This is 2nd part is turning into a dud! The worst part of this storm was 24 hrs ago when the height of the wet snow covered roads and created bad driving conditions..

Don,

Thank you for spelling it out to those who abuse this blog.

It seems that some young folks have no regard for a constructive forum or blog and eventually end up ruining it for others.
Maybe these immature individuals would be better off using their time by earning some money by shoveling snow or better yet, doing it for free for their parents or elderly neighbors.

Don...we appreciate this blog and your expertise, as well as all of channel 4's meteorologists.

Hey Welland....

I wondered when you were going to send snow to Barrie, as if we don't have enough. Nice dry period is over and now wind and heavy snow. EC calls for 5 cm but we've had that in the past hour alone.

Good call earlier Don. If the fools, be they adult or youth, are ignored, they'll eventually exit because they won't have an audience anymore. As I do with my little one's when they have a meltdown--as soon as I walk away and nobody is watching, the show is over!

Thanks for answering my earlier questions MB.

Probably 15 or more cm of snow in a few hours, above what was forecast for our area. Wind created near zero visibility. Things have since settled down.

Anonymous-----probably will skip the Toronto game and go to one in Buffalo. I have been to a few Bills games before. Great fans in Buffalo The Bills might be worth checking out in T.O. if the same atmosphere can be created. Toronto hockey at Air Canada Centre is far too corporate--folks too busy on their cellphones and blackberry's. Mind you, they could just be pleading with someone to rescue them from another disasterous hockey game.
And keeping with the weather theme...nothing like snow and Bills football. Can't stand indoor stadiums.

Just drove home to Lockport from Niagara Falls Blvd area, snow got heavier as we headed north. Snowing so hard in Lockport now we could only go about 25mph with really poor visibility. Had to crack open a cold one when we finally got home! Nothing like a good nor-easter!

Yes, Well said Don. This is my first comment on this blog. I have been reading it almost daily. I live in St Catharines and have watched channel 4 for a long time. I hope people who post or comment on here keep it respectable and if not then find some other blog that accepts such trash to spew your garbage.
These people that run this blog work very hard not only to keep you informed but to make sure you have the heads up so you can also be safe and aware for weather is a big part of all our lives and we need to know what's going on so we all can enjoy our days ahead.
Thank You Don, Mary Beth and keep up the great work.

Way to go Don!I dont mind the amateur forecasters as much as I mind those who respond with 'stupid, idiot' and the like.In one way I find it encouraging they are experimenting on their own and learning, but troubling they are so convinced they are right! At times last week I felt like I was watching an argument at home!Just dont give up on the blog altogether! There are alot of us who really like the blog even with the arm chair forecasters.

Anon, it does NOT go both ways. Those whose behavior is in question do not host the blog. They are not responsible for its content, the folks at channel 4 are however. That, and the fact that many who are deficient in "netiquette" are instigators, THAT is the difference.
