Weekend Update

A quiet weekend, with temperatures well below normal into early Sunday, before a significant turnaround begins. There may be a few lake flurries around on a Partly to Mostly Sunny Saturday. While it will be Cold, it will also be Tranquil, making it feel more comfortable. Saturday night lows will be Unseasonably Cold, but a downslope SE breeze on Sunday will bring our daytime high back to near normal. Showers associated with a warm front will arrive late Sunday night into Monday, with springlike temps into Tuesday morning. The complicating factor, though, is an intensifying storm will be passing to our north on Tuesday. Unseasonable warmth and Gusty Winds ahead of its cold front will precede a possible squall line. Strong to high winds will develop with and behind this sharp cold front. By evening, leftover showers will turn to a bit of snow. Tuesday's temps will plunge from the mid 50s into the 30s by early evening. Things will settle down nicely Wed-Fri.

Hey Don.You have a great team.Lindsay called today's forecast right on the money. She is a great addition. Also, with the amount of moisure tht fell last night,if there would have been leaves on the trees, would it have been another October storm senario?

Not as much accumulation, so it wouldn't have been as bad--but a few people in higher elevations last night did lose a few branches.

Glad you like Lindsay and her forecasting...We do too!

Hey Don i live in Hamburg and for chrismas i recived the wmr100a from oregon senintific.Every thing works great on it except the anonometer.People have said it measured the right speed exactly. My problem is i think its readings for the wind gusts are a little to low for example that big windstorm we had a month or two ago i only got a reading of 45 mph and i live on the lakeshore????I have it set up on my grage roof a half foot above it and it seems that nothing would be blocking the wind to have a difference in the wind speed. Not to menchine my roof is shaped like a triangle so is it possible that if i raise it a couple more feet itl work better or is it possible that could have been the real reading???Im also going to put my rain gauge out soon so how far should it be away from objects and trees???Thanks Don i would love to hear what i should do from a expert like you.:] -Adam from Hamburg

thanks for the updates again, Don.
I was wondering if there will be significant changes in our climatology (ie...spring-like weather) within the forseeable forecast? or are we still in this holding pattern. I'm confused with the jet stream...it seems so wide and due west over the entire country...maybe I'm looking at it wrong? The only thing I know is when it retreats to our North, the warm air can come through. So I guess I'm asking when do you think that will happen?

thanks again!

Affin: Positioning it higher may not be the answer. Make sure the receiver is close enough to your anemometer! If it's too far away, you're not getting an accurate reading. I'd advise you to read your instruction manual on how to set it up.

Chris: Spring t-storms will get here Monday and Tuesday.

Sabresfan: When the jet stream moves farther north, it does allow warmer air to build in..and more spring-like weather is back this week.

Adam Afin: You can put your rain gauge out late tonight through Tuesday with a springlike storm heading into town. Also, daytime highs in the 30s cannot be ruled out in the long range. There are still signs of a few cold shots in the extended models.

Precip may start out as freezing rain in some of the valleys tonight before changing to all rain. A Freezing Rain/Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Allegany and Potter counties from 1am - 7am Monday. Use extra caution if traveling late tonight, as there may be a few icy patches developing on area roadways.

Adam Afin: A few low 50s due to a downslope breeze. Sun helped a smidge, too. Even warmer air will push in tomorrow and early Tuesday.
