After a Saturday Peak...

the cooling which follows will be minor. On this Friday evening, signs still point to a record high being likely on Saturday with a SE downslope wind. It will be locally cooler along the Lk Ontario shore. On Sunday, an upper level low will drift slowly by to our south. Moisture and dynamics will be marginal, so we may see a few spotty showers, more likely closer to PA. Temps will be somewhat cooler, but remain above average into next Saturday. The operational GFS still points to a pattern change developing during next weekend, taking us back to an unsettled, chillier regime.

Don,

Two Big Picture Questions:

-Any long range thoughts-year or so-, if possible of course, about La Nina and El Nino.

-Any thoughts on the AP article appearing in many papers today about the supposed northward shift of the jet stream. While it was in the Buffalo News, I attached the Yahoo link.

Looking forward to your input...Matt from OP

Just as long as we're done with the snow!

We're more likely to be headed back to a neutral pattern by later this summer, rather than el nino. However, beyond that it's anyone's guess about what phase ENSO will be in by next winter--as to whether it will be neutral or moving toward el nino.

I have no thoughts on the AP article, since I haven't read the actual published paper and seen the methodology behind it. I know that's a dull answer, but it's the only one I've got.

I agree with anaonymous #2 about the snow. Me & my friends are ready for our Sunday rides to the parks either on our side or on Canada's side. So keep up the warm weather; my dog, ZhaZha, will thank you too!!

MC3008: Not really that uncommon when the air is incredibly dry as it is.
